Dr. Partha Nandi, a board-certified gastroenterologist and hepatologist, was shocked when his father, Uma Nandi, suffered a stroke despite seeming healthy the night before. After the stroke, Uma had to adjust to life in a wheelchair and focus on small goals like learning to lift a spoon to his mouth. This experience led Dr. Nandi to dive into researching the causes of stroke, revealing risk factors his father had post-retirement, such as losing a sense of purpose and community.

Through his research, Dr. Nandi also discovered a link between gut health and brain health. The gut microbiome, which consists of the bacteria in the intestines, has been found to impact conditions like stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s disease. This insight inspired Dr. Nandi to write a book titled “Heal Your Gut, Save Your Brain,” which explores preventative steps to improve gut health and protect cognitive function.

In addition to his book, Dr. Nandi has become a prominent health advocate, spreading his message of taking control of one’s health through various platforms. He launched AskDrNandi.com, hosts The Dr. Nandi Show, and serves as the chief health editor of WXYZ ABC Detroit. His teachings revolve around five pillars of health: purposeful living, a healthy diet, movement with purpose, community, and spirituality.

Dr. Nandi’s approach to health is focused on simple and accessible steps that anyone can take, including cooking with anti-inflammatory ingredients like turmeric. He believes that good gut health is essential for overall well-being, emphasizing the benefits of consistent healthy habits over extreme measures. By becoming their own “health hero,” individuals can prioritize their physical, mental, and spiritual health.

As a father of four, Dr. Nandi understands the challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle while juggling a busy career. He believes that entrepreneurs, in particular, can benefit from prioritizing gut health, as it can lead to improved physical, mental, and spiritual health. Ultimately, Dr. Nandi’s goal is to empower individuals to take ownership of their health and recognize the vital connection between gut health and brain function.
