The chances of Mystik Dan winning the second leg of the Triple Crown have increased following the withdrawal of Preakness favorite Muth due to a high fever. Zedan Racing Stables announced that Muth would not be participating in the 149th running of the Preakness Stakes in order to prioritize the horse’s long-term health and allow him to fully recover from the fever. Trainer Bob Baffert, who was unable to enter a horse in the Kentucky Derby, will still be present at Pimlico Race Course this weekend with another horse, Imagination, also owned by Zedan Racing Stables.

Muth, who opened as the 8-5 favorite, was ruled out of the race after developing a fever of 103 degrees Fahrenheit shortly after arriving at the racecourse. Despite the disappointment of not being able to compete in the Preakness, Baffert emphasized the importance of taking care of the horse and focusing on his well-being. Baffert, who holds the record for the most wins at the Preakness, with eight victories, previously saw Muth defeat this year’s Kentucky Derby winner, Mystik Dan, at the Arkansas Derby in March.

Trainer Kenny McPeek expressed confidence in Mystik Dan’s readiness to compete in the Preakness, mentioning that horse racing is a fragile sport and that setbacks can happen to any horse. Despite the added pressure of being a strong contender in the absence of Muth, McPeek believes in Mystik Dan’s abilities and preparation for the race. Mystik Dan’s participation in the Preakness keeps the Triple Crown dream alive, as he aims to follow up his Kentucky Derby victory with a strong performance in the second leg of the prestigious series.

The withdrawal of Muth from the Preakness due to a fever has reshaped the field for the upcoming race, with Mystik Dan now emerging as a leading contender for victory. Baffert’s focus on the well-being of his horses highlights the importance of considering the long-term health and welfare of the animals in the sport of horse racing. With Baffert’s success at the Preakness and Mystik Dan’s impressive track record, the stage is set for an exciting and competitive race at the 149th Preakness Stakes.

As Mystik Dan prepares to compete in the Preakness, the absence of Muth adds an element of unpredictability to the race, creating opportunities for other contenders to step up and make their mark on the prestigious event. The delicate nature of horse racing underscores the need for trainers and owners to prioritize the health and safety of their horses, ensuring that they are in optimal condition to compete at the highest level. With the support of his trainer and team, Mystik Dan is poised to showcase his talent and potential in the quest for Triple Crown glory.
