In a recent poll conducted by Quinnipiac University, it was revealed that former President Trump leads President Biden among Georgia voters with a 49% to 44% margin in a head-to-head matchup. When independent candidates Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Cornel West, Chase Oliver, and Jill Stein were included, Trump’s lead grew to a six-point spread. The all-important independent vote was evenly split between Trump and Biden at 45% each. Despite Trump’s recent guilty verdict in his New York City trial, with 50% agreeing with the verdict and 44% disagreeing, the majority of voters said it would have no effect on their vote, with 23% saying it would make them more likely to vote for the former president.

Regarding Trump’s election interference case in Fulton County, a majority (54%) of voters believed that he did nothing illegal, but 25% believe he acted unethically and 41% believe he did something illegal. In terms of which candidate would better handle voters’ top issues in the race, Trump holds a significant advantage over Biden on various topics, including immigration, the economy, the Israel-Hamas war, and the war between Russia and Ukraine. Voters also believe that Trump would be the best candidate to preserve democracy, but Biden held a slight advantage on the issue of abortion. Despite Trump’s lead in these areas, Biden’s job approval in Georgia stood at 36%, with 60% disapproving.

The poll also examined the impact of Trump’s guilty verdict on voters’ support for him. Just 18% of independents and 5% of Republicans said the verdict made them less likely to support Trump, with most Democrats indicating they were less likely to support him as a result. Additionally, only 22% of voters said the guilty verdict would make them less likely to vote for Trump. With the 2024 campaign trail underway, this data provides insight into the attitudes and preferences of voters in an important swing state like Georgia.

The results of this poll reveal a significant lead for Trump over Biden in Georgia, despite the former president’s recent guilty verdict in his New York City trial. While the majority of voters agreed with the verdict, many indicated that it would not impact their decision in the upcoming general election. Trump’s strength in handling voters’ top issues, such as immigration, the economy, and foreign conflicts, gives him an advantage over Biden in the eyes of Georgia voters. However, Biden does hold a slight edge on certain social issues like abortion. With the 2024 campaign in full swing, these findings offer valuable insights into the preferences of Georgia voters.

Despite the guilty verdict against Trump and ongoing legal issues, a significant portion of Georgia voters still support him and believe he did nothing illegal in relation to election interference. This underscores the strong loyalty and support that Trump continues to enjoy among his base in the state. While Democrats are less likely to support him as a result of the verdict, independents and Republicans are largely unfazed. As the election approaches, the dynamics of the race in Georgia and other swing states will continue to evolve, with Trump maintaining a solid lead in this crucial battleground state.
