The United Kingdom’s Global Entrepreneur Programme (GEP) is helping tech-driven company founders relocate their headquarters to the U.K. The program, which has been in place since 2005, has assisted over 1,400 entrepreneurs in scaling their businesses in the U.K. The GEP utilizes 10 influential global entrepreneurs called “Dealmakers” who provide ongoing guidance and mentorship to pipeline companies on various aspects of their business.

Dealmakers play a crucial role in the success of the program by scouting for innovative companies with core IP or defensible products that have the potential to do well in the U.K. Entrepreneurs who are accepted into the program receive exclusive support and assistance with their relocation journey. They can also apply for the Innovator Founder visa to enable them to build their businesses in the U.K. One such company, Fyma, an Estonian company harnessing artificial intelligence to analyze movement in urban spaces, was matched with Dealmaker Simon Sprince who helped them connect with potential clients, partners, and investors.

Dealmakers work with participants over several months, providing expertise and assistance in funding, sales strategies, network connections, and investor readiness. WeWALK, a Turkish startup that developed a smart cane for visually impaired people, relocated to London with the help of Dealmakers who facilitated introductions to key organizations and helped them access crucial funding opportunities. The GEP’s multilayered support was invaluable to WeWALK in connecting them with other tech companies, business communities, investors, and service providers.

After the initial program, the GEP Alumni Academy provides ongoing support to entrepreneurs as they continue navigating life and entrepreneurship in their new homes. This support includes mentor check-ins, workshops, drop-in info sessions, and large events convening portfolio companies and alumni in London. The Alumni Academy plays a crucial role in helping companies like WeWALK acclimate to the U.K. landscape by allowing founders to share their learnings and best practices with each other.

Dealmaker Simon Sprince remains in contact with founders he helped bring to the U.K. years ago, highlighting the long-term relationships that are built through the GEP. Sprince emphasizes the importance of bringing international companies to the U.K. and helping overseas investors understand the opportunities available in the country. The GEP continues to play a vital role in platforming innovative entrepreneurs and their businesses, providing sustainable support for a resilient future.

Overall, the GEP is powering the next wave of global entrepreneurship in the U.K. by providing valuable support, mentorship, and connections to internationally mobile entrepreneurs. Through its innovative model and dedicated Dealmakers, the program is solidifying the U.K. as a supportive partner for scaling businesses and fostering innovation in one of Europe’s most active funding ecosystems.
