A 3-year-old Turkish Angora cat named Shrimp is seeking a special person or persons to provide her with a lifetime of cuddles and cozy cat naps. Shrimp sustained a spinal cord injury in Dec. 2022 after falling down three stories but has proven to be a survivor. The cat is now under the care of Wonky Whiskers Rescue, a central Texas-based nonprofit that focuses on rescuing cats with serious injuries, disabilities, and illnesses. Shrimp never regained function of her back legs despite extensive testing and therapy, but she is able to scoot and even climb around on her own. The rescue is hoping to find her a forever home before she reaches her one-year mark at the rescue.

Shrimp’s previous owner surrendered her to Wonky Whiskers Rescue in June 2023. Despite her traumatic injury, Shrimp is described as happy and healthy, requiring just a little more care than a typical cat. She needs her bladder to be expressed three times a day, a simple process that only takes a couple of minutes. Despite this, Shrimp is a fairly normal cat with soft fur and a love for snuggling and lounging. She weighs just eight pounds and enjoys Churu treats, cozy beds, and endless cuddles from her person. The rescue is looking for a special individual or family willing to provide Shrimp with the care and love she needs.

Cats with paralysis and other special needs may seem intimidating to potential adopters, but according to the founder of Wonky Whiskers Rescue, once a routine is established, caring for a paralyzed cat is quick and easy. Paralyzed cats are resilient and capable, forming extraordinary bonds with their caregivers. The founder believes that being a part of their journey is incredibly rewarding. Anyone interested in adopting Shrimp can contact Wonky Whiskers Rescue, who will provide instructions on her care. Shrimp is up-to-date on her shots and medical care, and her adoption fee is waived, but the rescue requires potential adopters to meet her beforehand.
