Using split-screen mode on a Mac can greatly enhance your productivity by allowing you to easily view two windows side by side without having to toggle through multiple tabs. To access split-screen mode, make sure neither window is in full-screen mode and hover over the green button in the top left of one of the windows. Select “Tile Window to Left of Screen” or “Tile Window to Right of Screen” to enter split-screen mode. You can then adjust the size of the windows using the slider in the center of the screen.

To exit split-screen mode, move your cursor to the top of the screen and click the red button to close one window or the green button to exit split screen. Your other window will still be open in full-screen mode, and you can access it by pressing the Mission Control button (F3) on your keyboard. If you need to have more than two windows open, you can manually resize windows to fit three or four on your screen, although it may not be as visually clean as using tiled windows.

Split-screen mode can also be accessed using keyboard shortcuts on a Mac. You can use control + command + F to enter full-screen mode and then hit F3 to pull up Mission Control. Drag and drop the second app you want into your split screen next to your original window. You can also create your own keyboard shortcut by going to System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > App Shortcuts. This allows you to easily tile your active window to the left side of the screen and select a second window to be added to your split screen.

If your Mac is not able to enter split-screen mode, make sure you are not in full-screen mode and check if Displays have separate Spaces enabled in System Preferences > Desktop & Dock. Ensure that your MacOS is updated to 10.11 or later, as split-screen mode may not be available on earlier versions. Keep in mind that not all apps support split screens, so if an app is not tiling in split-screen mode, it may not have that feature. Additionally, if you prefer not to use full-screen mode for split-screen, you can manually drag windows to customize the layout.
