Omarion Hookfin, one of four escaped Louisiana inmates, was captured by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office after nearly a week on the run. The inmates escaped while participating in recreation time on the yard, taking advantage of a vulnerable section of the perimeter fence to make their escape. Jail officials were unaware of the breakouts until a family member of one of the escapees contacted them, leading to the eventual recapture of Hookfin, Avery Guidry, and Travon Johnson. Jamarcus Cyprian remains at large and is wanted for armed robbery and weapon charges.

Hookfin, Johnson, and Guidry were all incarcerated for a 2022 homicide in Hammond, resulting from a home invasion that left a 12-year-old girl injured and her father dead. Hookfin faces additional charges of aggravated battery while being held in Catahoula Parish. Cyprian, the remaining escapee, was also serving time for armed robbery and weapon charges. The sheriff’s office is urging anyone with information on Cyprian’s whereabouts to contact 911 or provide a tip through Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa’s anonymous tip line for a possible reward.

The capture of Hookfin and the subsequent recapture of Guidry and Johnson raised concerns about the prison’s security measures and the ease with which the inmates were able to breach the perimeter fence. Officials at the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office have not provided details on how Hookfin was found, only releasing a photo that suggested he was located in the woods. The quick action by law enforcement and the community led to the capture of three of the four inmates, but efforts are ongoing to locate Cyprian and ensure public safety.

The escape of the four inmates sparked a manhunt in Louisiana, with law enforcement agencies working together to track down the fugitives and secure their recapture. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking assistance from the public in providing information on Cyprian’s whereabouts, stressing the importance of community involvement in apprehending the escaped inmate. Anyone with firsthand knowledge is encouraged to contact authorities or make an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.

Despite the challenges posed by the escape and subsequent manhunt, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office remains committed to ensuring the safety of the community and bringing Cyprian to justice. Sheriff Daniel Edwards has called for vigilance and cooperation from residents in helping locate the remaining escapee, emphasizing the need for a collective effort to prevent further incidents. As the investigation continues, the focus remains on bringing closure to the case and maintaining the security of the prison facility to prevent future escapes.
