Nearly two dozen students and teachers in Thailand are feared dead after a school bus was engulfed in flames while traveling for a field trip. The bus was traveling from Uthai Thani province to Ayutthaya and Nonthaburi provinces when the fire occurred on the outskirts of Bangkok. Images captured at the scene show the flames engulfing the scorched bus, with plumes of black smoke billowing into the air. Acting police chief Kittirat Phanphet stated that the explosion was caused by a spark from the tire that lit the gas cylinder powering the vehicle. Some students managed to escape through windows as the fire burned, while others were feared dead.

Rescuers from the Ruamkatanyu Foundation reported that 23 passengers, including three teachers and 20 students, were missing and feared dead. However, two additional survivors were found, reducing the number of fatalities from the initial estimate of 25. The students on the bus were reported to be in elementary and junior high school. Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit mentioned that 16 students and three teachers were hospitalized and receiving treatment, although their conditions were unclear.
