NYPD Assistant Chief Joseph Gulotta praised Esther Veve for her unwavering faith and hope, stating that it is what keeps her going despite the challenges they have faced. Veve was tragically left paralyzed after the incident in 2017, when he was dragged by a fleeing driver for three blocks. The suspect, identified as Justin Murrell, avoided the maximum penalty and served only 14 months before going out on parole. Despite the challenges, both Veve and his wife continue to show immense strength and resilience, inspiring those around them at the gala and beyond.
