Maecee Marie Lathers, a 24-year-old Instagram model from New York, was involved in a three-car wreck in downtown Miami that resulted in the deaths of two people, including a father. Lathers confessed to police that she was under the influence of “pink cocaine” and claimed to be from the future and had a crystal ball. The synthetic drug, also known as “2C” or “tusi,” is linked to a dangerous Venezuelan gang and is prominent in New York City’s drug scene.

The collision occurred when Lathers ran a red light and crashed into a black Range Rover before attempting to flee the scene. The Range Rover then collided with a silver Suzuki sedan carrying three individuals, resulting in the death of the driver, Abraham Ismael, who had to be extricated from the car and died at a local hospital. Ismael’s wife, Juanita Hernández, survived the crash but suffered injuries that prevented her from working. She also mentioned that her husband left behind a 16-year-old son who provided financial support to his grandmother in Nicaragua, who suffers from Parkinson’s disease.

Lathers’ attempts to flee the crash were stopped by bystanders who brought her back to the scene. Police found her vomiting and later admitted to being under the influence of the party drug. Lathers, whose license had been suspended since January, was charged with four counts of driving without a license resulting in death or serious injury and four counts of leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death or serious injuries, all felonies. Prosecutors deemed her a flight risk due to the charges she faces and her potential danger to the community.

During her court appearance, Lathers was fitted with a green anti-suicide vest and ordered to be held on a $140,000 bond. If the reduced bond is paid, she will be placed on house arrest with a “No Driving Order.” Despite having only 11,000 followers on her Instagram account, Lathers claimed to be affiliated with two modeling agencies and portrayed a luxurious lifestyle through her posts. Originally from Fort Plain, NY, Lathers has been living in Florida since 2022.

The tragic accident deeply impacted the families of the victims, as Ismael’s wife was left unable to work due to her injuries, and her son’s financial support for his grandmother was lost. Lathers’ reckless actions caused immense grief and loss, prompting calls for justice and accountability. The judge expressed concerns about Lathers being a danger to the community and emphasized the seriousness of the charges she faces. As the legal proceedings continue, the families of the victims are left to cope with the devastating consequences of Lathers’ actions.
