The GeekWire 200 is a ranking of the top privately held technology startups in Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, providing a snapshot of the region’s startup landscape. The ranking is based on publicly available data such as LinkedIn employee counts, Facebook followers, and Moz domain authority, as well as editorial judgment from the GeekWire news team. Companies founded more than 15 years ago are not included in the list, as they are no longer considered startups. The latest update saw a number of startups moving up the list, including Chainguard, which climbed to No. 18 after raising $140 million and reaching a $1.1 billion valuation.

Several companies that recently raised funding to fuel growth also moved up the list, such as cybersecurity startup Protect AI, e-commerce delivery software startup Pandion, and addiction care company Boulder Care. The top-ranked companies on the list primarily focus on B2B enterprise software, which is a traditional strength of the Seattle tech ecosystem. However, there are also consumer startups included in the rankings, such as used goods marketplace OfferUp, multiplayer gaming giant Rec Room, and smart camera maker Wyze Labs.

The majority of startups on the list are based in the Seattle region, but Oregon and British Columbia are also well represented, showcasing the strength of the broader Pacific Northwest tech scene. The industries represented on the list vary, reflecting the diversity of the startup landscape in the region. To ensure eligibility for the GeekWire 200, startups must first be included in the broader GeekWire Startup List. Startups not on the list can submit their information for consideration in the next GeekWire 200 update.

For those new to GeekWire, there are opportunities to learn more about the publication’s focus and mission, including signing up for newsletters to stay updated on coverage, attending events such as the annual summer rooftop party, and becoming a member or sponsor to support their work. The GeekWire 200 provides valuable insights into the thriving technology startup ecosystem in the Pacific Northwest and highlights the innovative companies making waves in the region.
