Recent polling shows that most voters prefer former President Donald Trump to handle their top issues over President Joe Biden ahead of the 2024 election. According to a new NBC News poll, inflation is the number one issue for voters, with the majority of respondents believing that Trump would be better at handling the issue than Biden. Specifically, 52% of likely voters prefer Trump to deal with rising costs, while only 30% believe Biden is better equipped to address the issue. Additionally, the crisis at the southern border was found to be the second most important issue to voters, where Biden was also found to trail Trump in terms of handling.

When asked about their opinion of Biden’s handling of immigration and the crisis at the border, a significant 69% of respondents said they disapproved. While the April NBC poll did not ask about Trump’s current handling of the immigration crisis, a previous survey from January revealed that 57% of respondents preferred Trump’s approach to the issue compared to only 22% who favored Biden. In terms of overall support, if the election were held today, Trump leads Biden by a 2-point margin of 46% to 44%, further indicating that voters believe Trump is the best candidate to address these critical issues of inflation and immigration.

The results of the NBC poll are reflective of a trend in recent polling data that consistently shows voters are most concerned about the issues of the border and rising costs. Fox News surveys in key battleground states such as Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin have also indicated that voters prefer Trump over Biden to handle immigration and the economy. Additionally, an Axios/Ipsos survey found that Latino voters are more likely to believe Trump is better for the economy, with 42% supporting him compared to only 20% for Biden. On the issue of immigration, 29% of Latino respondents gave Trump a positive rating, compared to 22% who preferred Biden.

The NBC poll was conducted from April 12 to 16, 2024, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The survey results highlight a clear preference among voters for Trump over Biden in handling critical issues such as inflation and immigration. With most respondents believing that Trump would be more effective at addressing rising costs and the crisis at the southern border, these findings suggest that Trump continues to maintain strong support among voters ahead of the 2024 election. As concerns about key issues persist, it remains to be seen how the candidates will navigate these challenges and appeal to voters in the upcoming election cycle.
