Erotic thriller “50 Shades of Grey,” based on E.L. James’ best-selling book, is set to stream on Netflix soon. The movie, released in 2015, stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. Despite being panned by critics, the film became a box office hit, earning over $570 million globally. The popularity of the film trilogy saw a decline after the first installment.

“50 Shades of Grey” received a 25% “rotten” rating on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, with viewers giving it a slightly better 41% rating. The film is among the 10 worst-reviewed movies on Netflix for June. Despite the negative reviews, the movie’s success led to two sequels, “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed,” which did not perform as well at the box office or with critics. Unlike the first film, the sequels are not available on any subscription streaming services but can be rented on digital platforms.

E.L. James’ book trilogy has sold more than 165 million copies worldwide, but the movie adaptations failed to win over critics and some fans. “50 Shades of Grey” introduces audiences to Christian Grey’s world of sadomasochism and explores the unconventional relationship between him and Anastasia Steele. The film’s production budget was $40 million, with additional costs for prints and advertising.

While “50 Shades of Grey” was a global success, with a global box office tally of over $570 million, its sequels did not fare as well financially or critically. “Fifty Shades Darker” earned $381.3 million worldwide, and “Fifty Shades Freed” made $371.9 million globally. Both sequels received “rotten” ratings from Rotten Tomatoes critics, with low scores from audiences as well. The trilogy’s popularity declined after the first film, leading to decreased interest in the sequels.

Despite the mixed reviews and declining popularity of the film trilogy, “50 Shades of Grey” remains a notable addition to Netflix’s streaming catalog. The movie is set to debut on the platform, giving audiences a chance to revisit the steamy and controversial story. While the film was a financial success, its critical reception and audience ratings show a divide in opinion on the adaptation of James’ best-selling book.
