Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 lineup is set to bring significant design changes, with leaked images revealing details on the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Longtime Apple leaker Sonny Dickson has provided exclusive images showcasing the design of these upcoming smartphones. While the official announcement is expected in early September 2024, many new features are already being revealed.

Metal machined blanks have given us a glimpse of what to expect from the materials used in the upcoming iPhones. A leak from ShrimpApplePro has shown the rear of the latest iPhone 16 models, with the rear glass infused with specific colors such as space black, grey, white, and rose. This design choice differs from the textured matte glass back used in the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models, but it is likely to have been strengthened over the last year.

Apple is also planning to offer thinner bezels on the iPhone 16 through the use of Border Reduction Structures. This feature will allow for a more compact layout of the display circuitry, reducing the physical bezel space required. While this design may increase the bill of materials, it is expected to be limited to the higher-priced iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. The use of BRS will help differentiate the Pro models from the standard iPhone 16 devices.

The addition of an Action Button and Capacitive Capture Button will be introduced across all iPhone 16 models. The Action Button, previously seen on the 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, replaces the mute switch and can be programmed to open a specific app or perform a designated action. The Capture Button, a capacitive button without moving parts, will also be present on all iPhone 16 models, potentially paving the way for a future without physical buttons in Apple’s design vision.

The iPhone 16 rear camera will feature a vertical layout of two lenses, allowing for stereoscopic video recording. While this may not have a significant impact on regular photos, it opens up the potential for 3D playback on Apple’s Vision Pro mixed reality headset. Additionally, Apple plans to incorporate generative AI tools into iOS 18, with more information expected at the Worldwide Developer Conference in June. The launch of the iPhone 16 family is likely scheduled for early September as per tradition.

Overall, Apple’s upcoming iPhone 16 lineup promises significant design changes and new features that aim to differentiate the Pro models from the standard devices. With thinner bezels, infused glass backs, and advanced camera features, Apple continues to push the boundaries of smartphone technology. The incorporation of AI tools and innovative button designs further showcase Apple’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge products to its loyal customer base.
