A voluntary recall has been issued for Great Value Organic Black Chia Seeds sold at Walmart stores nationwide due to concerns about potential salmonella contamination, which can cause serious infections, especially in vulnerable populations such as children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Symptoms of salmonella infection include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, which can lead to severe illnesses such as arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis in rare cases. The recall was issued as a precautionary measure, with no reported illnesses associated with the product at the time of publication.

The affected chia seeds were distributed in 32-ounce packages with an expiration date of October 30, 2026, a lot code “24095 C018,” and a UPC code “078742300665.” Consumers who have purchased the recalled product are advised to discard it and can contact Natural Sourcing International, the producer of the item, for replacements with proof of purchase. The company has emphasized consumer safety as its top priority and is providing assistance through its customer service department via phone or email. Walmart, the retailer of the product, has been reached out to for comment regarding the recall.

Salmonella is a common cause of food poisoning in the U.S., with several food products being recalled this month due to potential contamination, including items sold by Walmart. Symptoms of salmonella infection, such as fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, typically appear within six hours to six days after consuming tainted food and can last for four to seven days. E.coli contamination has also led to recalls of raw beef distributed to Walmart stores in multiple states, posing a risk of hemolytic uremic syndrome, a type of kidney failure that can be especially dangerous for elderly adults and young children.

The recall of the raw beef products sold at Walmart stores in 11 states and Washington, D.C., was prompted by concerns over potential E.coli contamination, which can cause severe illness, including kidney failure, particularly in vulnerable populations. The safety of consumers is paramount in these recalls, with the companies taking proactive measures to ensure that potentially tainted products are removed from the market to prevent harm. The public is advised to be vigilant about food recalls and to follow guidance on proper food handling and hygiene practices to reduce the risk of foodborne illnesses. Regular monitoring and reporting of food safety issues are essential to protect public health and prevent outbreaks.
