A mule packer ranch in North Carolina is lending a helping hand in delivering much-needed supplies and first aid to communities in the mountains impacted by Hurricane Helene. The Mountain Mule Packer Ranch shared updates on Facebook as they prepared to assist those in need. They set up a staging area in Weaverville and Montreat, partnering with the Cajun Navy, a group of civilian volunteers. The mule team helped families in need by delivering essential supplies, including insulin for those who were unable to access it due to impassable roads.

The organization has documented their journey online and is accepting donations to purchase supplies for those affected by Hurricane Helene. The group expressed gratitude for the support they have received, including assistance from Five 11’s Livestock Hauling and the opportunity to support Cajun Navy 2016 in their relief efforts. Due to the difficult conditions in the mountains, coordinating supplies has been a challenge, but the team is working diligently to provide assistance where it is needed most.

As of Tuesday evening, the death toll from Hurricane Helene stood at 160 across the six states affected, with search efforts ongoing in North Carolina for missing individuals. Helene has been identified as the third-deadliest hurricane to hit the mainland U.S. in the last 55 years, ranking below Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and Hurricane Camille in 1969. President Biden announced plans to visit the region and survey the devastation firsthand, with visits to Asheville, North Carolina, as well as Florida and Georgia on the itinerary.

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 hurricane, causing extensive damage to buildings and infrastructure across the Southeast. Cleanup efforts are underway in western North Carolina, with resources from across the country being deployed to assist in relief operations. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper praised the joint response effort, highlighting the immense challenges faced by emergency responders in providing aid to affected communities. President Trump has also launched a GoFundMe campaign to help victims of Hurricane Helene, raising over $1 million in donations to support relief efforts in the impacted areas.
