Motorola has announced the release of the new Motorola Razr Plus and Razr for 2024, featuring upgrades and new features such as new colors, finishes, upgraded cameras, larger cover screens, Moto AI, and Google Gemini. The phones are designed to strike a balance between being fashionable, fun, and innovative. One standout feature is the variety of color options available for each phone, with the Razr Plus even coming in pink, reminiscent of the original Razr V3 flip phone from 2004. Motorola aims to attract customers by offering a premium Razr Plus at $1,000 and a more affordable Razr at $700, a strategy that has proven successful based on a significant increase in Razr shipments compared to the previous year.

Both the Razr and Razr Plus feature vegan leather backs in various textures and finishes, with a sleek and plush feel. The new phones come equipped with a smaller hinge design that improves durability and reduces the amount of dust that can get in. Additionally, the phones are rated IPX8 for water resistance, allowing them to survive being submerged underwater for 30 minutes. The screens on both phones have been improved, with a brighter display and new water touch technology that allows for use in the rain. The Razr Plus offers a 6.9-inch internal screen with a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, while the regular Razr has a 120Hz display.

One of the significant changes on the new Razr models is the cover screens, with the Razr Plus featuring a 4-inch display and the regular Razr retaining a 3.6-inch screen. Both phones have two external cameras built into the cover screen, with the Razr Plus featuring a 50-megapixel main camera and a 2x telephoto camera, while the regular Razr has a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera. The Razr Plus runs on a Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chip with a 4,000 mAh battery, offering various charging options, while the regular Razr runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 7300x chip with a 4,200 mAh battery.

The Razr Plus comes with Moto AI, offering features such as improved portraits, autofocus in videos, and long exposure images. Additional features include “Pay Attention,” which records and transcribes conversations, and “Style Sync,” which generates wallpaper that matches your outfit. The phones run on Android 14, with a promise of major software support for three years and bi-monthly security updates for four years. Motorola also introduced the Moto Tag, a Bluetooth tracker with ultra-wideband support that works with all Android phones. The new Motorola Razr Plus and Razr will be available for pre-order starting in July, with the Razr Plus priced at $1,000 and the regular Razr priced at $700.

Overall, Motorola has made significant improvements to the Razr and Razr Plus for 2024, focusing on fashion, fun, and technology. The phones offer a unique design with vegan leather backs and a smaller hinge for durability. The improved cameras, battery life, and charging options make them competitive in the market. With the introduction of Moto AI and the Moto Tag, Motorola is aiming to provide a comprehensive user experience that combines style, functionality, and convenience. The success of the Razr lineup last year suggests that these upgrades and features may attract customers looking for a fashionable and innovative foldable phone option.
