The mother of Jonathan Lewis, a Las Vegas teen who was beaten to death by a gang of bullies last year, is furious at the district attorney for allowing her son’s alleged killers to avoid prosecution as adults. Mellisa Ready expressed outrage at the plea deal accepted by the Clark County District Attorney, which would ensure the four teens charged with her son’s death will not be sent to adult prison. Ready feels there is no justice for her son, who was brutally attacked and murdered while bystanders filmed and broadcasted the incident on social media.

The four teens accused of killing Jonathan Lewis – Damien Hernandez, Dontral Beaver, Gianni Robinson, and Treavion Randolph – were originally charged as adults with second-degree murder. However, a plea deal was reached that allows them to plead guilty as juveniles to manslaughter. Their attorneys believe that convicting them of murder would be an additional tragedy, following the first one of Lewis’ death due to blunt force trauma from the beating he endured.

Jonathan Lewis, a student at Rancho High School, was attacked in an alley near his school after a fight broke out over a set of stolen wireless headphones. In a video of the attack captured by multiple cell phones, police described it as “void of humanity.” The teens accused of the crime previously claimed self-defense, alleging that Lewis initiated the fight. However, his mother firmly believes they intentionally caused her son’s death and should be held accountable as adults for their actions.

The mother of Jonathan Lewis was blindsided by the plea deal announcement and was not informed of the hearing that took place. She was under the impression that the four teens would plead guilty to murder and face a maximum of two years in the adult system. She strongly disagrees with the deal and believes they should be fully responsible as adults for their roles in her son’s death. Ready expressed her belief that the attackers knew they were causing fatal harm to Lewis and should not be allowed to escape accountability.

Five additional teens were also charged in connection to Jonathan Lewis’ death, with four of them pleading guilty to manslaughter in the juvenile court system, including a 13-year-old boy. One teen is still awaiting sentencing in the case. Mellisa Ready remains resolute in her battle for justice for her son, Jonathan Lewis, who lost his life in a senseless act of brutality at the hands of his peers. She continues to fight for accountability for those involved in the tragic incident and to seek closure and justice for her son.
