Dejaune Anderson, the mother of a 5-year-old Atlanta boy whose body was found in a suitcase in Indiana in 2022, was ordered held without bond during her initial court appearance. Anderson is charged with murder, neglect, and obstruction of justice in the death of Cairo Ammar Jordan, whose body was discovered in a wooded area northwest of Louisville. She claimed in court that she had been under federal surveillance for several months before her capture, but the judge did not take this into consideration when determining her bond status.

After being on the run for nearly two years, U.S. Marshals arrested Anderson in California. During her court appearance, she told the judge that she had been under NSA surveillance for eight months and had a detail from Space Force following her every move. The judge said that if Space Force confirmed their monitoring of Anderson, they would revisit the issue of bond at a later time. Anderson initially identified herself with another name, beginning with “Princess,” and requested to represent herself in court, but the judge appointed a public defender to represent her. She is scheduled to appear in court in April with a tentative trial date set for August.

An autopsy revealed that Cairo died from vomiting and diarrhea that led to dehydration, about a week before his body was found by a mushroom hunter. Investigators determined that he had died about a week or less before being discovered. A second woman charged in the case, Dawn Coleman, reached a plea deal with prosecutors in November. Coleman, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was sentenced to 30 years in prison with five years suspended to probation after pleading guilty to aiding, inducing or causing murder, neglect of a dependent resulting in death, and obstruction of justice.

The tragic case of Cairo Ammar Jordan’s death has sparked outrage and sadness from the community. Anderson’s bizarre claims of being under surveillance and her unusual behavior during her court appearance have added to the mystery surrounding the case. The sentencing of Dawn Coleman highlights the seriousness of the charges related to Cairo’s death, as she received a significant prison sentence and probation. Investigators are still working to uncover the full details surrounding Cairo’s death and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. The community continues to mourn the loss of a young life and seek justice for Cairo.
