In less than a year, Jazz Turgeon and Patrick Haggart went from the happiest they had ever been to facing a series of devastating health challenges. After going through a challenging IVF journey, the Montreal couple welcomed their daughter, Amelia, into the world, bringing them immense joy. However, their happiness was short-lived when Turgeon was diagnosed with a brain tumor in January 2024. Although the tumor is not cancerous at the moment, doctors warned that it could change at any time. Just a month later, on Valentine’s Day, Haggart was rushed to the hospital with agonizing abdominal pain and was diagnosed with appendicitis, only to discover during surgery that he had cancer and needed chemotherapy to survive.

As Haggart underwent treatment for Stage 3 cancer, Turgeon suffered a violent seizure in June that resulted in a broken back. Despite weeks of rehabilitation, she is now facing major brain surgery to remove as much of the tumor as possible. However, the tumor is located in the part of her brain that controls personality, raising concerns about the potential impact on her identity. Meanwhile, Haggart’s cancer recently progressed to Stage 4, necessitating a more aggressive treatment plan. Despite these challenges, both are determined to fight for their daughter and each other, relying on the support of friends and family to navigate these tumultuous times.

Turgeon and Haggart are trying to remain hopeful for their daughter, Amelia, who they describe as the center of their world. They have made provisions for her care in the event that they are unable to be there for her due to their health struggles. The couple had to confront difficult realities, like getting their last will and testament in order at such a young age, as they prepare for the worst while hoping for the best. With both Turgeon and Haggart unable to work due to their medical conditions, financial stress adds to their already heavy burden. Turgeon was devastated to learn that she did not qualify for sick leave benefits due to not having worked long enough since returning from maternity leave.

In response to their challenging circumstances, friends have set up a GoFundMe page to support the family during this difficult time. The couple has been touched by the overwhelming support and generosity they have received from their community. Despite the uncertainty and fear surrounding their health conditions, Turgeon and Haggart find strength in their love for Amelia and their determination to overcome these obstacles together. They are grateful for the love and support they have received and remain hopeful for the future, while acknowledging the harsh realities they face. With a spirit of resilience and love, they continue to fight for their family’s well-being amidst the uncertainty of their health challenges.
