Mission, a renowned brand in the loudspeaker industry, has a long history dating back to the launch of its iconic 770 loudspeakers in 1978. The company further solidified its reputation with the introduction of the compact Mission 700, popularizing smaller bookshelf speakers in the 1980s and ’90s. These speakers were praised for their engineering and classic British hi-fi sound.

In recent years, Mission has been revisiting its archive of speaker designs, particularly the 770 and 700 models. The reimagining of these classic British designs has resonated with music enthusiasts, both nostalgic fans and a younger generation of audiophiles. This year, Mission has introduced the Mission 750, a new retro-inspired speaker that draws inspiration from the brand’s heritage while offering a fresh design approach.

The Mission 750 features a classic bookshelf design, with an industrial aesthetic that complements the resurrected 770 and 700 models. One of the standout features of the 750 is its inverted driver arrangement, known as Inverted Driver Geometry (IDG). This configuration, with the tweeter below the woofer, is a signature Mission feature that aids in time alignment and enhances stereo imaging for a transparent sound.

The 750 boasts a polypropylene woofer with minerals for added stiffness, resulting in improved bass performance and extended response. The woofer is meticulously designed with a specially engineered motor system and a rigid die-cast chassis, ensuring optimal performance. The tweeter, featuring a lightweight microfiber dome, delivers smooth and detailed high-frequency response that complements the woofer’s performance.

Mission’s meticulous attention to detail extends to the crossover design, with engineers dedicating hundreds of hours to fine-tuning the crossover for optimal balance across the frequency range. The drivers and crossover are housed in a real-wood veneered cabinet made from high-density MDF and particle board, creating a cabinet with minimal resonance that allows the drive units to perform without interference.

While traditionally referred to as bookshelf speakers, Mission recommends placing the 750 on dedicated speaker stands for optimal performance. The Mission 750 is available in walnut or black wood veneer finishes, with a recommended retail price of $1199 / £899 per pair. With its combination of classic design influences and modern engineering advancements, the Mission 750 aims to appeal to both longtime fans of the brand and a new generation of audio enthusiasts.
