Miranda Derrick, the subject of Netflix’s docuseries “Dancing for the Devil: The 7M TikTok Cult,” has spoken out following the release of the series on May 29th. The series explores claims made by Miranda’s family that she is allegedly part of a cult run by Robert Shinn, the pastor of Shekinah Church in Los Angeles and founder of 7M Films. In her statement on June 4th, Miranda clarified that she is not a victim, not in any harm, and not being abused. She also mentioned that due to pending litigation, she cannot comment on specific allegations but wants to make it clear that she does not condone abuse.

In the docuseries, Shinn is accused of sexual assault by multiple women, and Miranda’s family members provide their perspectives on the situation with 7M. Miranda believes that the series presents a one-sided story and shared that she gave her life to Jesus Christ in 2020, leading to differences in viewpoints with her family. She mentioned feeling frustrated and annoyed by their overbearing behavior when she asked for space to explore her spirituality. Additionally, Miranda discussed a fallout with her sister Melanie, which led her to start her own social media account and pursue her career independently.

Following an Instagram Live where her family claimed they were unaware of Miranda’s wedding in September 2021, Miranda shared in her statement that they are now working towards making amends and moving forward as a family. Despite the documentary creating further challenges for their relationship, Miranda expressed her commitment to resolving the issues and overcoming the public scrutiny. She also expressed her disapproval of how she was portrayed in the docuseries, stating that she does not appreciate being depicted as brainwashed or controlled when that is not the truth.

The docuseries follows various dancers and their families as they investigate Shinn’s practices. Recordings from church services show Shinn encouraging members to cut ties with family members outside the organization and taking financial advantage of social media stars associated with him. Allegations include mandating that dancers donate a significant portion of their earnings, up to 70 percent, to Shinn and Shekinah Church. The series sheds light on the controversial and potentially harmful dynamics within the 7M organization and the impact it has on its members and their families. Despite the challenges presented by the public scrutiny and legal battles, Miranda remains steadfast in asserting her autonomy and defending her reputation.
