The New York Mets paid tribute to slain NYPD officer Jonathan Diller with a moment of silence before their home opener against the Milwaukee Brewers. Both teams lined up along the baselines as a tribute to Diller was shown on the Jumbotron at Citi Field. The New York City Police Department expressed gratitude to the Mets for their support for Diller and his family during the Opening Day ceremony. Diller was fatally shot during a traffic stop in Queens by a man with 21 prior arrests who allegedly shot him in the stomach as he attempted to get the suspect, Guy Rivera, to exit the vehicle.

Rivera opened fire on Diller and his partner after they approached the vehicle, which had been illegally parked at a bus stop. Another man in the vehicle at the time, Lindy Jones, was also charged following Diller’s death, including for criminal possession of a weapon and defacing a weapon. The Mets tribute to Diller took place on the second day of funeral services in Long Island for the married father of one, who had served three years with the NYPD before his tragic death. Former President Donald Trump attended the wake, and New York Gov. Kathy Hochul briefly appeared at the wake before leaving after speaking with a man outside the funeral home.

Diller will be laid to rest in Massapequa on Saturday. The community continues to mourn the loss of the beloved officer, and the Mets’ gesture of honoring him was greatly appreciated by both the NYPD and his family. The support shown by the Mets at the home opener signifies the unity and respect for law enforcement that is important in the city of New York. Diller’s sacrifice will not be forgotten, and his dedication to serving and protecting the community will always be remembered by those who knew him.

The tragic events that led to Diller’s death serve as a reminder of the dangers that law enforcement officers face on a daily basis. The loss of a dedicated officer like Diller is felt deeply by the community, and his legacy will continue to inspire others to serve their communities with courage and selflessness. The support shown by the Mets and other members of the community during this difficult time is a testament to the impact that Diller had on those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the gratitude of those who benefited from his service.

As Diller is laid to rest, the community will come together to honor his life and pay tribute to his sacrifice. The Mets’ moment of silence was a heartfelt gesture that symbolized the city’s respect and admiration for law enforcement officers. Diller’s legacy will continue to inspire others to serve their communities with dedication and honor. By remembering his commitment to protecting and serving others, we can ensure that his memory lives on forever. Our thoughts and prayers are with Diller’s family and colleagues during this difficult time, and we are grateful for the Mets’ support in honoring his memory.
