Meghan Markle recently made a discreet appearance alongside Oprah Winfrey at a private event at Godmothers bookstore in California. The event was part of the grand opening of the bookstore, which is located less than five miles from Prince Harry and Meghan’s Montecito mansion. Meghan was seen sitting in a reserved seat while Oprah discussed books during the event. The Duchess later took the stage with a microphone in hand to speak to the crowd, though little is known about what she actually said during the event.

During the event, Meghan appeared to be smiling and happy, with one fan sharing a quote from her talk on social media. However, it was later revealed that the quote was actually said by Meghan during a previous event in Colombia. The Godmothers event took place just a day before the second anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s death. Feminist icon Gloria Steinem, a friend of Meghan’s, also showed her support for the bookstore’s opening by giving an exclusive interview to its inaugural newsletter. The bookstore opening comes after Meghan and Prince Harry’s bombshell interview with Oprah in March 2021, in which they spoke out about their experience with the royal family.

During the Oprah interview, Meghan revealed that there were “concerns and conversations” within the royal family about how dark their son Archie’s skin might be when he was born. This led to widespread discussions about racism within the royal family, with Prince Harry later clarifying that Meghan had not intended to accuse the royals of racism but suggested that there may have been unconscious bias. The interview marked Meghan and Harry’s first full account of their experience and criticisms of the monarchy. Overall, the event at Godmothers bookstore served as a platform for Meghan to share her thoughts and connect with the community, while also shedding more light on the ongoing discussions about race and privilege within the royal family.
