Andrew Scott stars as Tom Ripley in the series, portraying the struggling con man hired to convince a man’s son, Dickie Greenleaf, to return to the U.S. Steve Zallian described Ripley as a petty criminal who feels he deserves better, with Scott showing the range to play the many personas of Ripley. Dakota Fanning takes on the role of Marge Sherwood, Dickie’s girlfriend who suspects Ripley’s intentions. Johnny Flynn plays Dickie Greenleaf, the wealthy and self-entitled artist living off his trust fund, showcasing a sweet naïveté beneath his outward confidence. Eliot Sumner portrays Freddie Mills, Dickie’s snobby friend with suspicions about Ripley.

Maurizio Lombardi stars as Inspector Ravini, the Italian homicide detective in Ripley who plays a chess-like game with Tom Ripley, portrayed by Andrew Scott. Kenneth Lonergan portrays Mr. Greenleaf, Dickie’s father who originally hires Ripley to go to Italy. The series features an ensemble cast with each member bringing depth and complexity to their characters.
