In a recent child abuse probe known as Ops Global, 156 individuals were detained, with one member discovered to have four wives and 34 children, though only two were present during the raid. This group consisted of 80 men and 76 women, with varying age groups represented, including 55 individuals aged 18 to 30 and 16 aged 65 and above. Additionally, 187 children were rescued, with 59 under five years old, 75 aged six to 12, 40 aged 13 to 17, and 13 aged 18 or older, bringing the total of rescued children since the beginning of the operation to 572. It is believed that most of these children are offspring of the members of this group.

The rescued children have been placed in 11 safe houses by the Social Welfare Department, and the Ministry of Education is launching an educational program for over 300 of them starting on October 1st. It is estimated that the group under investigation, known as GISB, has around 10,000 followers nationwide, including children. Initial investigations have revealed that these individuals are still adhering to the teachings of the Al-Arqam sect, which was declared deviant in 1994. It is unclear what specific practices or beliefs this group holds that are related to the teachings of the Al-Arqam sect and whether they are harmful in nature.

The revelation that one member of GISB had four wives and 34 children, with only two present during the raid, raises concerns about the welfare of the rest of the children and how they are being cared for. The fact that most of the rescued children are believed to be offspring of GISB members indicates that there may be a larger network of individuals involved in these questionable practices. The decision to place the rescued children in safe houses and initiate an educational program for them demonstrates a commitment to ensuring their safety and well-being.

The ongoing investigation into GISB and its members will likely uncover more information about their beliefs, practices, and potential harm caused to children. The fact that these individuals are still following the teachings of a sect declared deviant decades ago highlights the challenge of addressing deeply rooted beliefs and the potential dangers associated with extremist ideologies. It is essential for authorities to continue their efforts to dismantle groups like GISB and ensure the protection of children who may be at risk due to their association with such groups. The outreach and support provided to the rescued children through safe housing and educational programs are positive steps towards addressing the impact of their exposure to harmful beliefs and practices.

Mr. Razarudin’s statements regarding the number of followers in GISB and the identification of children believed to be associated with the group provide valuable insight into the scope of the issue and the potential impact on vulnerable individuals. By conducting these raids and rescuing children, law enforcement and social services are taking a proactive approach to safeguarding those who may be at risk of harm. The revelation of the number of children involved and the efforts being made to support them highlights the importance of ongoing vigilance and intervention to protect individuals from exploitation and abuse in the name of religious or ideological beliefs.
