A makeup artist identified as Jane Roe filed a lawsuit against country star Garth Brooks, alleging that he raped her in a hotel room and subjected her to unwanted sexual conduct, including sending lewd text messages and groping her breasts. She also accused Brooks of exposing himself to her on multiple occasions. The woman stated that the trauma from the rape was so severe that she contemplated suicide. The lawsuit claims that Brooks is desperate to prevent his fans from learning about the alleged incidents.

Brooks had previously filed a preemptive lawsuit against the woman in federal court in Mississippi, accusing her of threatening to ruin his reputation by filing a sexual abuse lawsuit unless he paid her a multimillion dollar settlement. The federal suit was filed anonymously by a plaintiff identified as “John Doe,” who alleged attempted extortion, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress. The lawsuit sought an injunction to stop the woman from continuing her alleged extortionate behavior, as well as compensatory damages.

The woman, represented by attorney Douglas Wigdor, stated that she started working as a makeup artist and hair stylist for Trisha Yearwood, Brooks’ wife, in 1999. She began working for Brooks in 2017, with more frequent work in 2019 when she was facing financial difficulties. The lawsuit alleges that Brooks exposed himself to her at his home, forced her to touch his penis, and pressured her to perform oral sex. The woman also stated that Brooks raped her in a hotel room during a trip to Los Angeles for a Grammy tribute.

After the alleged rape, the woman claims that Brooks continued to make lewd comments, send explicit text messages, and engage in unwanted sexual behavior such as groping her breasts and masturbating in front of her. The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles state court under the state Sexual Abuse and Cover-Up Accountability Act. The woman’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor, has previously filed numerous #MeToo lawsuits against powerful figures, including Harvey Weinstein. The lawsuit seeks to hold Brooks accountable for his alleged actions and to seek justice for the woman who claims to have experienced trauma as a result of the incidents.
