Construction equipment tycoon Don Ahern has made headlines for turning his Nevada properties into mega MAGA gathering grounds. Despite facing fines for violating executive orders banning mass gatherings, Ahern has remained steadfast in his support for Donald Trump, hosting rallies and fundraisers at his hotel. His embrace of MAGA politics has raised his national profile, with reports indicating that he has committed to making a big donation to Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Ahern’s wealth is undeniable, as evidenced by his $2 billion sale of Ahern Rentals in late 2022. With an estimated $600 million in his pocket after taxes, Ahern still owns Xtreme Manufacturing and a stake in Snorkel. However, politically speaking, his hotel is his prized asset. The Ahern Luxury Boutique Hotel, formerly known as the Lucky Dragon, has become a go-to venue for state and national conservatives, hosting events for the Clark County Republican Party, Nevada Republican Club, and others.

In addition to hosting conservative events, Ahern’s hotel also came to the rescue of a Qanon conference that was abruptly canceled by Caesars Entertainment in 2021. The conference, titled For God and Country Patriot Double Down, featured prominent far-right speakers and promoted the false claim that “Trump Won.” Ahern’s political influence in Nevada predates his support for Trump, with longtime connections to conservative politicians and donors.

Born in 1953, Ahern followed in his father’s footsteps to become a successful businessman in the construction equipment rental industry. He built his fortune by combining two companies and expanding his business, even weathering a bankruptcy in 2011. Despite facing financial challenges, Ahern’s business rebounded, and the sale of Ahern Rentals to United Rentals in 2022 solidified his status as a wealthy entrepreneur.

After the 2020 election, Ahern deepened his political involvement by joining the Nevada State Republican party as Finance Chair. He has supported various Republican candidates, with a focus on backing Trump and his allies. Ahern’s strong belief in Trump’s ability to “save the country” has cemented his reputation as a vocal supporter of the former president. With his wealth and political connections, Ahern continues to make waves in conservative circles, using his properties as platforms for MAGA gatherings and fundraisers.
