Lime has introduced a new micromobility device called the LimeGlider in Seattle, which is a seated electric vehicle without pedals designed for easier cruising. This move comes as Lime also unveils an improved bicycle, called LimeBike, with a handlebar throttle that gives riders the option to either pedal with electric assist or use the throttle to move. Lime chose Seattle for the LimeGlider pilot due to the city’s commitment to sustainable transportation innovation and support for micromobility, as well as its highly engaged rider community and varied mix of terrain that are well-suited for the LimeGlider. With a green and black color scheme, the LimeGlider offers the seated comfort of a bike with the effortlessness of a scooter, featuring a larger padded seat positioned closer to the ground to provide a lower center of gravity for riders.

Wheels had previously operated a fleet of similar sit-down-style scooters in Seattle, and Lime’s decision to introduce the LimeGlider and the updated LimeBike reflects the company’s commitment to providing innovative micromobility options to cities where they operate. The LimeGlider will launch in Seattle in mid-August, with a pilot expected in Zurich, Switzerland, for both vehicles later in the summer. Both Lime and Bird are part of Seattle’s Scooter and Bike Share program run by the Seattle Department of Transportation, allowing residents and visitors to access shared e-bikes and e-scooters as part of the city’s transportation infrastructure. Lime operates in 280 cities in nearly 30 countries, with its success being attributed to cities like Seattle, where residents and visitors took over 3.1 million rides on Lime vehicles in 2023, a 50% increase from the previous year.

The LimeGlider and LimeBike offer new options for riders in Seattle and other cities, providing a mix of seated and electric-assist features that make micromobility more accessible and convenient. Lime’s decision to pilot the LimeGlider in Seattle is a strategic choice based on the city’s infrastructure and rider community, as well as its commitment to sustainable transportation initiatives. With a focus on providing comfortable and effortless transportation solutions, Lime aims to expand its offerings in cities around the world, supporting its mission to provide convenient and environmentally-friendly mobility options for urban residents and visitors. The launch of the LimeGlider and the updated LimeBike demonstrates Lime’s ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability in the micromobility space, as the company continues to expand its presence globally and work with cities to improve transportation options for all.
