A woman, Brooke Canady, gave birth to her second child in the front seat of her husband’s car while on the way to the hospital. The incident occurred on May 8, 2024, when Canady, who was 37 weeks pregnant, woke up with strong contractions. Her husband, Jeffrey Canady, had been caring for their two-year-old son through the night. When Canady’s contractions became more painful and consistent, she called her doula, who advised her to go to the hospital. With contractions less than five minutes apart, Canady and her husband began the 45-minute drive to the hospital, but Canady knew they wouldn’t make it in time.

As they were driving, Canady’s body started involuntarily pushing only 15 minutes into the drive. Ten minutes from the hospital, her water broke and she informed her husband that she was going to have the baby. At a stoplight near the hospital, Canady was able to grab her son and pull him onto her chest as she gave birth in the front seat of the car. Her husband, who had been focused on driving, was surprised to suddenly realize he was now a father of two. Emergency hospital staff rushed to the vehicle where Canady’s OBGYN happened to be present as well. With the help of the staff and her husband, the Canadys welcomed their son, Truett Canady, at 8:38 a.m. He weighed 7 lbs. 9 oz.

After the chaotic birth, Canady’s new son was healthy and had a calm personality. Canady shared that it was a surreal feeling to be a mom again and to have such a redemptive birth story. Her older son, Tripp Canady, had complications after birth, resulting in a week-long stay in the NICU. This time around, Canady prayed for a positive birth experience and was grateful for how her body was able to provide for her newborn. She described the birth as everything she could have wanted and a testament to God’s faithfulness and a mother’s capability. Both mom and baby are now healthy and home.

Canady’s birth experience stands in stark contrast to the traumatic experience she had with her older son. She expressed pride in her body’s ability to bring another child into the world and was thankful for the support of her husband and the hospital staff during the unexpected roadside birth. Canady reflected on the incredible journey of motherhood and felt grateful for the positive outcome of her second childbirth experience. Despite the chaos of the situation, she found peace and redemption in the birth of her son in the front seat of a car on the way to the hospital. The Canady family is now enjoying their new addition and the joys of being a family of four.
