A federal judge has denied Hunter Biden’s attempts to dismiss his felony tax indictment, leading to a trial scheduled for June. Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, faces nine charges related to tax evasion and illegal tax schemes. The judge rejected Hunter Biden’s arguments that the indictment was politically motivated and criticized his lawyers for failing to provide evidence to support this claim. Additionally, the judge dismissed Hunter Biden’s assertion that the special counsel was improperly appointed.

The judge also disagreed with Hunter Biden’s arguments regarding the actions of two Internal Revenue Service agents who were whistleblowers in the case. The judge ruled that there was no evidence to substantiate these allegations and that even if there were issues with the IRS agents, it would not warrant dismissing the case. Hunter Biden’s attempts to have some of the charges in the indictment dismissed were also rejected by the judge. These rulings offer vindication for special counsel David Weiss and his team, who have defended the integrity and nonpartisan nature of their work.

A diversion agreement between Weiss and Hunter Biden that would have avoided tax charges was found to be ineffective as it required the signature of a probation officer, which was left blank. Therefore, Hunter Biden does not have immunity under that agreement. Hunter Biden is also facing separate charges in Delaware related to alleged gun crimes, with a trial scheduled to begin in June as well. The judge in Delaware has not yet ruled on Hunter Biden’s attempts to dismiss that case.

Overall, the judge’s rulings in the tax indictment case against Hunter Biden confirm the validity of the charges brought by the special counsel. Despite Hunter Biden’s efforts to challenge the appointment of the special counsel and dismiss the case on various grounds, the judge found no merit in these arguments. The upcoming trials in both California and Delaware will allow for further examination of the evidence and for the legal process to proceed. Hunter Biden maintains his innocence and will continue to challenge the handling of the case by the special counsel.
