Uruguayan singer-songwriter Jorge Drexler is embarking on his first tour of Europe, capitalizing on an impressive moment in Spanish-language music. His latest album, “Tinta y tiempo”, has earned him four Latin Grammy Awards and an Oscar. Drexler will be performing live for the first time the song “Derrumbe,” which was included in the 2021 TV show “Todo va a estar bien.” The European tour will be intimate, with voice, guitar, and an open repertoire, allowing Drexler to connect with an audience seeing him for the first time. He looks forward to visiting various European cities he has never been to before, as well as returning to others like Paris and Berlin.

After the European tour, Drexler will return to his studio in Madrid to continue songwriting. He finds that as his repertoire grows, songwriting becomes more complicated as each new song needs to open up a little space in his brain. While some may resort to artificial intelligence for songwriting, Drexler prefers songs written by human beings as they offer personality, mistakes, and unexpected places. He also enjoys collaborations in the creative process, such as those with C.Tangana, Rubén Blades, and Noga Erez on his previous album, as they provide relief from his own creative burdens.

Drexler’s interest in collaborating also comes from a desire to explore new music beyond what his generation typically listens to. He is more interested in the music his 12-year-old daughter enjoys than that of his own generation, showing his openness to different styles and influences. Despite his success and accolades, Drexler remains committed to the art of songwriting and the personal touch it brings to his music. He prefers the imperfections and humanity of songs written by individuals over the perfection of artificial intelligence-generated content.

Throughout his career, Drexler has focused on Western countries for his performances, but now looks forward to expanding his reach to Eastern Europe. His upcoming European tour will take him to countries like Denmark, Ireland, Italy, and Sweden, offering him a chance to connect with new audiences and explore unfamiliar cities. While performing live, Drexler plans to share his passion for music and storytelling, bringing his unique style and heartfelt lyrics to fans who may be experiencing his music for the first time.

As Drexler continues to evolve as a musician and songwriter, he remains committed to the craft and the art of connecting with audiences through his music. The European tour presents an opportunity for him to showcase his talents in new settings and with a fresh perspective. With a dedication to authenticity and human connection in his songwriting, Jorge Drexler continues to push boundaries and explore new creative avenues in his musical journey.
