In a recent interview with Variety, Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight revealed that he has reconciled with his daughter, Angelina Jolie, after a long estrangement. However, Voight admitted that he still has issues with Jolie’s political beliefs, specifically her opposition to Israel’s offensive in Gaza and her support of Palestinians. Voight believes that Jolie has been influenced by propaganda and antisemitic individuals, particularly due to her connection to the United Nations (U.N.). Jolie has been working with the U.N.’s refugee agency since 2001 and was appointed as a special envoy in 2012, but she resigned from the position in 2022 to work directly with refugees and local organizations.

When Jolie released a statement condemning the Israeli invasion of Gaza as the deliberate bombing of a trapped population with nowhere to flee, her father Voight expressed disappointment in her lack of understanding of God’s honor and truths. Voight believes that Jolie, like many in Hollywood, is not exposed to the information he is privy to and is living in a bubble. Voight expressed his concerns that Jolie’s opinions are influenced by the U.N.’s perceived anti-Israel bias and emphasized that he does not want to fight with her but simply has differing beliefs. Despite their disagreements, Voight stated that he loves his daughter dearly and feels her pain when she is going through a tough time.

In the interview with Variety, Voight raised concerns about the U.N.’s stance on human rights, accusing the organization of engaging in anti-Israel bashing under the guise of human rights advocacy. Voight believes that Jolie’s involvement with the U.N. has led her to adopt views that he disagrees with, particularly her position on the conflict in Gaza. Voight’s faith and strong beliefs in God’s honor and truths inform his perspective, which he believes is at odds with the values promoted by the U.N. and some in Hollywood. Despite their political differences, Voight stressed that he cares deeply for his daughter and is affected by her emotional state.

Jolie did not provide a comment for the Variety article, suggesting that she may prefer to keep her relationship with her father and her political beliefs private. Her decision to resign from her position as a special envoy for the U.N. and engage directly with refugees and local organizations reflects a shift in her approach to humanitarian work. While Voight and Jolie may hold differing political views, their familial bond remains strong, with Voight expressing his love and support for his daughter even in the face of their disagreements. The complex dynamics of family relationships and differing political beliefs are highlighted in the interactions between Voight and Jolie, showcasing the challenges of navigating personal connections in the context of divergent ideologies.
