Attorney John Eastman, an architect of Donald Trump’s plan to overturn the 2020 election, is facing potential disbarment in California for his role in promoting the former president’s efforts to remain in power. State Bar Court Judge Yvette Roland recommended last week that Eastman lose his license due to ethical violations, including false statements about Vice President Mike Pence’s authority on Jan. 6, 2021. The California Supreme Court will make the final decision on Eastman’s disbarment, which he appeared dismissive of during an interview on “The Absolute Truth With Emerald Robinson.”

Despite being found culpable for 10 of the 11 disciplinary charges against him, Eastman believes the case against him should never have been brought, citing disagreements on the facts of the 2020 election and constitutional interpretation. However, Roland argued that sanctioning Eastman is necessary to protect public confidence in the legal system. Eastman has been on involuntary inactive status since Saturday pending the final decision, but he requested a stay of Roland’s order on Wednesday due to financial constraints from fighting multiple cases, including one in Georgia related to the 2020 election.

Eastman is also a defendant in a case led by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis in Georgia, where he faces charges of election interference. He denies any wrongdoing and claims that if his suspension is not paused, he will lose his ability to defend himself in the ongoing legal battles. Additionally, he revealed that he was recently subpoenaed by U.S. Capitol Police officers who are suing Trump for injuries sustained during the 2021 insurrection. Eastman believes these legal challenges are meant to distract and drain resources from furthering sensible election efforts.

In her 128-page decision, Judge Roland emphasized that attorneys have a duty to advocate for their clients within ethical and legal boundaries, which Eastman allegedly crossed in promoting baseless claims about the 2020 election results. She highlighted the need to enforce these limits to protect the public and maintain confidence in the legal system. While Eastman maintains his innocence, the judge’s ruling underscores the seriousness of the charges against him and the potential consequences for his legal career.

Eastman’s involvement in Trump’s efforts to challenge the 2020 election results has put him at the center of intense legal scrutiny and potential disbarment. The decision by the California Supreme Court will determine the final outcome of his case, with implications for his ability to practice law moving forward. Despite his defiance and dismissiveness towards the charges, Eastman’s legal battles and the consequences of his actions continue to unfold, potentially impacting not just his career but also his reputation and financial stability. The ongoing legal challenges and controversies surrounding Eastman serve as a stark reminder of the repercussions of participating in the promotion of baseless election fraud claims.
