The University of Arkansas has announced that Hall of Fame coach John Calipari will be the new head coach of the men’s basketball team, following his departure from Kentucky after a 15-year career with the Wildcats. Calipari, 65, has signed a five-year deal with Arkansas that will see him earn $7 million per season, including a $1 million signing bonus, $500,000 retention bonuses each year, and one-time bonuses based on NCAA tournament performance. Arkansas Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics, Hunter Yurachek, praised Calipari for his coaching credentials, including a national championship and four-time national coach of the year awards, as well as his recruiting prowess within the SEC.

Yurachek expressed confidence in Calipari’s ability to attract top talent and compete for championships at Arkansas, citing the coach’s understanding of the passion of the Razorback Nation and the home court advantage at Bud Walton Arena. Calipari, the winningest active coach in men’s college basketball with a career record of 855-263, made the decision to step away from Kentucky following a first-round exit in this year’s NCAA tournament. He spoke about the need for a new voice to guide the program and expressed gratitude for his time at Kentucky. Calipari will be replacing Eric Musselman, who left Arkansas to take the head coaching job at Southern California.

Arkansas will be holding a press conference to introduce Calipari as the new head coach. He will be taking over the program after a 16-17 finish last season, with high hopes of turning things around and bringing the team back to national prominence. Calipari’s track record of success and his ability to build championship teams will be crucial in elevating Arkansas basketball to new heights. The university and Razorback fans are eager to see what the future holds under Calipari’s leadership, as they aim to compete at the highest levels of college basketball. Calipari’s arrival marks a new chapter for Arkansas basketball, with hopes of success and championships on the horizon.
