Despite receiving lousy reviews from critics, Jennifer Lopez’s new Netflix original movie Atlas managed to attract a large number of viewers over its debut weekend. The futuristic movie, directed by Brad Peyton, follows the story of Atlas Shepherd, a tech analyst who must join a mission to destroy an AI robot named Harlan that threatens to annihilate Earth.

Atlas received a total of 28.2 million views from May 20-26, making it the top title on the Netflix Global Top 10 Movies chart. The film also topped the U.S. Top 10 Movies chart and was included in the Top 10 in 93 countries where Netflix is available. Despite the strong performance on the streaming platform, Rotten Tomatoes critics were not impressed, giving Atlas a 17% “rotten” rating. However, Netflix viewers provided a more neutral assessment, with a 51% Audience Score based on over 500 user ratings.

In addition to Jennifer Lopez, Atlas also stars Sterling K. Brown, Mark Strong, and Lana Parilla. The film displaced the Netflix original rom-com Mother of the Bride as the top title on the global movies chart. Meanwhile, the animated musical comedy Thelma the Unicorn managed to climb to the No. 2 spot on the Netflix Global Top 10 Movies chart, followed by the 2009 animated comedy Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs at No. 3.

Unlike previous weeks, there were no big movie productions on this week’s list of films debuting on Netflix. However, next week will see the release of the action crime comedy Hit Man, starring Glen Powell and Adria Arjona. The movie, directed by Richard Linklater, is highly anticipated and is expected to attract a large number of viewers. As streaming platforms continue to release a diverse range of content, viewers have a wide variety of options to choose from for their entertainment needs.
