Jenna Ortega’s controversial movie “Miller’s Girl,” which depicts an inappropriate relationship between a student and her older teacher, has unexpectedly dropped off Netflix’s Top 10 U.S. Movies chart. The R-rated psychological drama premiered on Netflix on April 26 after a short theatrical run in the United States. Despite the initial popularity among Ortega’s fans, the film did not maintain its position in the Top 10 list.

The movie debuted at number 5 on Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 Movies chart, following “Anyone But You,” “The Judge,” “Unfrosted,” and “The Great Wall.” “Miller’s Girl” stars Ortega as an 18-year-old high school senior named Cairo Sweet, who engages in a controversial relationship with her literary teacher, Jonathan Miller, played by Martin Freeman. The age gap between their characters and the provocative nature of their interactions sparked controversy surrounding the film.

Martin Freeman discussed the controversy in an interview with The Times of London, describing “Miller’s Girl” as a mature and nuanced film that does not glorify the inappropriate relationship portrayed. Meanwhile, a new romantic comedy titled “Mother of the Bride” took the top spot on Netflix’s U.S. movies chart for the week of May 6-12, causing “Miller’s Girl” to drop out of the Top 10 entirely.

Despite the setback with “Miller’s Girl,” Jenna Ortega has exciting projects on the horizon, including the highly anticipated “Beetlejuice 2” and the romantic drama “Winter Spring Summer or Fall.” The latter will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on June 6, starring Ortega as Remi and her “Wednesday” co-star Percy Hynes White as Barnes. The film follows the couple’s relationship over the course of a year, navigating challenges as Remi prepares for Harvard and Barnes contemplates his future.

Directed by Tiffany Paulsen, known for collaborating with Emma Roberts, “Winter Spring Summer or Fall” is set to captivate audiences with its poignant love story. While the film awaits a U.S. release date, “Beetlejuice 2” is scheduled for theatrical release on September 6, with filming already underway for “Wednesday” Season 2. Both “Miller’s Girl” and “Wednesday” Season 1 are available for streaming on Netflix, offering fans the opportunity to enjoy Ortega’s versatile performances across different genres.
