Japan Airlines is offering international travelers free domestic flights as a promotion to encourage exploration of different regions in the country. The airline hopes that this will help passengers discover areas of Japan they might not normally visit, such as Kyoto’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites or the landscapes of Hokkaido. This initiative is also aimed at reducing overtourism in popular destinations like Mount Fuji by providing a seamless travel experience across the archipelago.
In order to qualify for the free domestic flights, travelers must book both an international and a domestic flight with Japan Airlines in the same reservation. Passengers from the US, Canada, Mexico, and China may incur a stopover fee if they stay in their first destination for more than 24 hours before continuing on. Currently, the offer is only available to travelers from select countries, but will gradually open up to more countries throughout September. Japan Airlines also plans to expand the list of eligible countries later on.
The promotion not only provides travelers with free domestic flights, but also includes a generous baggage allowance for economy class passengers. Those purchasing a Japan Airlines domestic flight fare from outside of Japan can check in up to two pieces of luggage weighing up to 23 kg each. This offer aims to attract more international travelers to explore the diverse regions of Japan, promoting a more well-rounded travel experience beyond the typical tourist hotspots.
Earlier this year, Japan Airlines was recognized as one of the best airlines in the world based on surveys from over 21 million passengers in 100 countries. The airline’s domestic network covers 64 airports on 133 routes, offering access to various regions across the country. By providing free domestic flights, Japan Airlines hopes to encourage travelers to delve deeper into Japan’s culture, history, and natural beauty, promoting a more sustainable tourism model and easing overcrowding in popular destinations.
Some of the regions that travelers can explore with these free domestic flights include Kagoshima, known as the gateway to Japan’s southern islands, where outdoor adventures await. Whether it’s visiting historic sites, enjoying natural landscapes, or experiencing local cuisine, this initiative aims to showcase the diversity of Japan’s attractions. By providing a seamless travel experience and encouraging exploration beyond the major cities, Japan Airlines hopes to create memorable and enriching experiences for travelers while supporting local economies in lesser-known regions.
As the promotion continues to expand to more countries, travelers from around the world will have the opportunity to take advantage of these complimentary domestic flights. By partnering international and domestic flights, Japan Airlines is offering a unique way for visitors to immerse themselves in Japan’s rich culture and heritage. With the added benefit of a generous baggage allowance, this promotion is sure to entice travelers to discover the hidden gems and unexplored wonders of Japan.
