American skateboarder Jagger Eaton is aiming to make history at the Paris 2024 Olympics by becoming the first skateboarder to compete in both street and park disciplines at a single Games and make the podium in each. This goal is rare in competitive skateboarding, as the sport is not structured to allow athletes to compete in multiple disciplines simultaneously. Eaton’s pursuit of this goal requires hard work, resilience, and carefully coordinated logistics.

At the first Olympic Qualifier Series (OQS) stop in Shanghai, Eaton made a significant step towards achieving his historic goal. The OQS events will play a crucial role in determining which athletes in skateboarding qualify for the Paris Olympics in 2024. Points earned by athletes at these events, combined with their world rankings and upcoming OQS event in Budapest, will contribute towards Olympic qualification.

Heading into the OQS Shanghai event, Eaton was ranked second in the world park rankings, behind Gavin Bottger, and 12th in the world street rankings, behind Nyjah Huston. In a remarkable showing in Shanghai, Eaton finished third in park and won the street competition, proving his capability to compete at a high level in both disciplines. Despite the challenges of competing in back-to-back events, Eaton expressed confidence in his ability to repeat his performance.

Eaton’s success in Shanghai has propelled him to second place in the world park rankings, behind Tate Carew, and second place in the world street rankings, ahead of Nyjah Huston. With the Olympic qualification period ending on June 23, USA Skateboarding will soon announce the Olympic team, based on the points earned by athletes in qualifying events. Eaton’s outstanding performance in Shanghai has put him in a strong position to secure a spot on the U.S. team in both park and street disciplines.

The qualification process for the Paris 2024 Olympics in skateboarding is highly competitive, with athletes vying for a limited number of spots in each discipline. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, Jagger Eaton’s determination and skill have set him on a path towards making history and achieving his goal of podium finishes in both park and street competitions at the upcoming Games. As the qualification period comes to a close, the skateboarding community eagerly awaits the announcement of the U.S. Olympic team and the opportunity to witness Eaton’s pursuit of Olympic glory in Paris.
