iOS 18 will bring a variety of new features to iPhones, including the ability to customize the home screen and control center, lock and hide applications, access an overhauled Photos app, and use Apple Intelligence, a new AI system. The update was announced at Apple’s WWDC conference, with the second developer beta currently available for download. However, not all iPhones will be able to support iOS 18 and its features.

Fortunately, every iPhone model that currently supports iOS 17 will also support iOS 18, so if you are currently running iOS 17, you will be able to upgrade. The iPhone 16 series, which has not been officially announced yet, is expected to arrive running iOS 18 as well. However, not every iPhone will support Apple Intelligence, the generative AI system for iPhones that is a key aspect of iOS 18. Only select iPhone models with the A17 Pro processor will be able to use Apple Intelligence features.

The A17 Pro processor is the latest and most advanced chipset from Apple, and it is only available in the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max models. These are currently the only devices capable of supporting the new on-device AI features that Apple Intelligence will introduce later this year. While it is likely that the iPhone 16 will also be able to support Apple Intelligence, it is unclear whether this feature will be available on all models within the series or limited to specific versions.

Apple Intelligence will allow users to quickly summarize text in Safari, create personalized images in Messages, and ask Siri to perform more complex tasks. However, the availability of these features will be limited to a few select iPhone models. As the technology continues to evolve, it is expected that more iPhones in the future will be able to support Apple Intelligence and other AI features. Users should stay informed about updates and announcements from Apple to determine if their device will be compatible with these new capabilities.
