Four illegal immigrants, part of a group arrested for robbing a New York City Target store and attacking police officers, have been detained by ICE and face deportation. The arrested individuals, all of whom are unlawfully present noncitizens, were picked up about a week after the incident. One of the individuals is being held at Rikers jail and has had a detainer request lodged against him by ICE. The incident involved the illegal migrants attacking police officers while attempting to flee the scene.

According to a criminal complaint, one of the immigrants shoved a police officer who was trying to handcuff him and then urged his female accomplice to run. The female accomplice then struck the officer in the head, causing injuries that required medical treatment. Another suspect threw rocks at responding officers but missed. In total, five individuals were arrested, and a sixth suspect remains at large. Charges included robbery, assault, resisting arrest, obstruction of governmental administration, possession of stolen property, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

Despite the seriousness of the charges, two of the individuals were released under supervised release without bail, despite prosecutors’ requests for bonds of $10,000 and $30,000. The Manhattan Criminal Court Judge ordered one of the individuals to be held on $3,000 bail or a $9,000 bond. The remaining three individuals were charged with robbery and disorderly conduct. The incident has sparked concerns about the handling of illegal immigrants who engage in criminal activities and the potential risks they pose to public safety.

ICE has since taken custody of the four individuals who were released and are holding them pending removal proceedings. A detainer request has also been lodged against the fifth individual being held at Rikers jail. The incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in dealing with illegal immigrants who engage in criminal behavior. The involvement of multiple individuals in the robbery and attack on police officers underscores the need for stricter enforcement measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

The incident involving the robbery of a Target store and the attack on police officers by a group of illegal immigrants has drawn attention to the issue of immigration enforcement and public safety. The individuals involved in the incident face deportation as a result of their immigration status and involvement in criminal activities. The handling of the case, including the release of some of the suspects without bail, has raised concerns about the potential risks posed by illegal immigrants who engage in criminal behavior. Efforts to address these challenges and ensure public safety will likely continue to be a focus for law enforcement agencies and immigration authorities.
