Edwards was a prominent BBC anchor, known for presenting both the News at Six and the flagship News at Ten. He announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September 2022 and fronted various BBC News specials. Despite being suspended in July 2023 and arrested later that year, Edwards only stepped down from his role in April 2023. During this time, he remained on the BBC payroll and received £200,000 in salary. The BBC asked him to return this portion of his pay, and the UK’s Culture Secretary also called for the money to be returned.
