Hugh Jackman, known for his roles in blockbuster hits like Deadpool & Wolverine, is set to star in a sci-fi box office bomb titled Reminiscence, which will be available for streaming on Netflix starting August 6. The film also features Ryan Reynolds, Emma Corrin, Matthew Macfadyen, and Aaron Stanford in supporting roles, with cameo appearances by several other high-profile actors. Jackman, who previously starred in movies like The Greatest Showman and Missing Link, plays the role of Nick Bannister, a detective of the mind who uses a device to help clients relive memories.

Reminiscence marks Jackman’s return to the sci-fi genre four years after his solo swan song Logan in 2017. Directed by Lisa Joy, co-creator of Westworld, the film follows Nick as he delves into the mystery of a client’s disappearance after forming a romantic relationship with her. As Nick re-lives memories with Mae, played by Rebecca Ferguson, he uncovers a deeper layer to the mystery. Netflix viewers will soon have the opportunity to watch Jackman’s performance in this sci-fi thriller as it debuts on the streaming service in a few days.

The release of Reminiscence was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the film debuting in theaters and on HBO Max in August 2021. Following Warner Bros.’ strategy for 2021, all films were released day-and-date in theaters and on HBO Max, with a one-month streaming window. Despite a global production budget of $67.9 million, Reminiscence only managed to earn $15.4 million at the box office. Critics on Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a dismal 36% rating, with reviews criticizing its blend of sci-fi action and noir thriller. Audience scores were not much better, indicating that the film failed to captivate viewers with its narrative and character development.

As Reminiscence heads to Netflix for streaming, viewers will have the opportunity to form their own opinions on the film’s merits. The release of the movie comes amidst Jackman’s success in Deadpool & Wolverine, which is currently playing in theaters and garnering positive reviews from audiences and critics alike. Despite the underwhelming reception of Reminiscence, Jackman’s star power and performance in the film may still attract viewers looking for a sci-fi mystery with a twist. Whether the movie will find a new audience on Netflix remains to be seen, but Jackman’s loyal fan base is sure to tune in to see him in action once again.
