Hugh Jackman, 56, is sharing his past experiences with skin cancer in an upcoming documentary called Conquering Skin Cancer. In a trailer for the Australian film, Jackman spoke about his fear when he first dealt with skin cancer in 2014 and emphasized the importance of wearing sunscreen to prevent skin cancer. He also urged viewers to undergo tests for melanoma, stating that they won’t regret it.

In May 2014, Jackman shared on Instagram that he had another Basel Cell Carcinoma removed and once again reminded his followers to wear sunscreen. Seven years later, he emphasized the importance of regular skin checks in an April 2021 social media video. Jackman stressed how easy and important it is to be preemptive with these things, especially for those who were not educated about sun protection when they were young.

Jackman had a biopsy that revealed pre-cancerous cells and stressed how glad he was that he went for the check-up. In August of the same year, he underwent another biopsy on his nose which turned out to be basal cell carcinoma, the least dangerous form of skin cancer. Jackman shared that he has had about five or six of these cancers due to his upbringing in Australia and the lack of sunscreen use. He once again encouraged viewers to wear sunscreen and get regular skin checks.

In a social media message, Jackman shared that the results of the biopsy on his nose were inconclusive and that he would need to have it rechecked after finishing filming. Despite repeating himself on the importance of skin checks and sunscreen, he expressed gratitude for the support he received and hoped that his message would encourage at least one person to see their dermatologist. The documentary, Conquering Skin Cancer, is set to be released in Australia on November 20, although it is not clear if it will premiere in the United States.

Hugh Jackman’s story serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of skin cancer and the importance of proactive measures such as wearing sunscreen and getting regular skin checks. His experiences highlight the impact of sun exposure during childhood and the increased risk of developing skin cancer later in life. By sharing his story in the upcoming documentary, Jackman hopes to raise awareness about skin cancer prevention and encourage viewers to prioritize their skin health. The film is likely to shed light on the realities of skin cancer and inspire others to take preventive action against this prevalent disease.
