After 12 days and at least two rounds of group matches at the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, one team from each of the four groups has qualified for the Super Eight stage, four teams are already out of the race and the rest of the 12 teams will fight it out for the four remaining spots. Some of these 12 sides stand half a step away from crossing over to the next stage of the tournament, while others have their fates hanging by a thread, a favourable weather forecast and their net run rates. Al Jazeera breaks down the various scenarios for all four groups and the 20 teams at the end of the round of matches on June 12.

In Group A, India has already qualified after winning all three of their matches. The USA is the favourite to qualify with 4 points, needing just a win over Ireland to secure a spot in the Super Eight stage. Pakistan and Canada have slim chances of qualifying, while Ireland only has a mathematical chance due to disappointing performances in the group stage.

Group B has seen Australia qualify with three comprehensive wins. Scotland is the favourite to secure the second spot, needing to avoid a heavy defeat against Australia. England has a slim chance of qualifying, while Namibia and Oman are already out of the race.

Co-hosts West Indies have qualified from Group C with three straight wins. Afghanistan is the favourite to qualify, needing just one point from their remaining matches. Uganda has a mathematical chance, while Papua New Guinea and New Zealand have slim chances of making it to the Super Eight stage.

In the so-called group of death, Group D, South Africa has already qualified. Bangladesh and Netherlands have a good chance of securing the remaining spot, with Nepal having a slim chance of qualifying. Sri Lanka is already out of contention after a disappointing show at the World Cup.

As the tournament progresses, fans will eagerly await the outcome of the remaining group matches to see which teams will make it to the next stage and continue their journey towards the T20 World Cup title. The coming matches will be crucial for teams with slim chances of qualifying, as they will need to secure wins and hope for favourable results from other matches to stay alive in the competition.
