If you have used the Cash App mobile payment service in the last six years and have experienced unauthorized access to your account or personal information, you may be eligible for a $2,500 cash settlement payout. The proposed class action lawsuit settlement for $15 million claims that Cash App and its parent company, Block, failed to prevent unauthorized access to user accounts. The lawsuit alleges negligence on the part of Block and Cash App, citing instances where an employee accessed account data without permission and an unauthorized user accessed accounts using recycled phone numbers. If you have experienced unauthorized transfers of funds or unauthorized access to your account, you may be eligible to claim a payout of up to $2,500.

To be eligible for a payout in the Cash App settlement, you must have been a customer of Cash App or Cash App Investing between Aug. 23, 2018, and Aug. 20, 2024, and had your personal information, account, or funds accessed without authorization. You may also be eligible if you experienced unauthorized or fraudulent withdrawals or transfers of funds, or if there was a deficiency in resolving an error in your Cash App account. The proposed settlement amount is $15 million, and eligible participants could receive up to $2,500 for out-of-pocket losses and $25 per hour for reimbursement of lost time up to 3 hours. To claim losses, you will need to provide third-party documentation.

If you are eligible for a Cash App payout, you must submit a claim form by Nov. 18, 2024. You can submit your claim online or by mail, with the submission postmarked by the deadline. If you have claims relating to multiple Cash App accounts, you should list all relevant information on a single claim form. The address for mailing claim forms is provided on the settlement website. It is important to note that an older version of the claim form listed Oct. 15, 2024, as the deadline, but the new form shows Nov. 18, 2024. The settlement administrator advised following the earlier deadline to be cautious.

The final approval hearing for the Cash App settlement is scheduled for Dec. 16, 2024. If approved, payments will be distributed after that date to eligible participants. In the meantime, it is recommended to take steps to secure your Cash App personal and financial information, as well as stay informed about any potential data breaches. Additionally, consider utilizing identity theft monitoring services and password managers to enhance your online security. If you have any questions or concerns about the Cash App settlement or the claims process, you can contact the settlement administrator or seek further assistance from legal professionals.
