The Democrats continue to maintain a significant fundraising advantage over Republicans in the race for control of the House of Representatives. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) announced that it had raised $45.4 million in the first three months of 2024, with a large portion of that coming in March alone. In contrast, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) raised $33.4 million for the first quarter, marking a significant gap between the two groups. The DCCC has raised a total of $166.7 million in the 2024 election cycle, compared to the NRCC’s $124.7 million, giving them a substantial financial edge.

The DCCC’s fundraising success has allowed them to have a cash advantage over the NRCC, with $71.1 million cash on hand compared to the NRCC’s $55.9 million. DCCC chair Suzan DelBene emphasized that supporters are providing the resources needed to take back the House and deliver for working families. Despite the financial discrepancy between the two parties, Republicans have managed to narrow the cash-on-hand deficit compared to previous election cycles. In the 2022 and 2020 cycles, the DCCC had a much larger cash advantage at this point, but Republicans still gained seats in those elections.

Although the DCCC has raised significantly more money than the NRCC, it appears that they are burning through their funds at a higher rate. The NRCC remains confident in their ability to grow their majority, highlighting the policy differences between Republicans and Democrats. The ongoing internal strife among House Republicans, particularly regarding foreign aid packages for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, has created tension within the party. Some members are pushing to oust House Speaker Mike Johnson over disagreements on these issues, further complicating efforts to maintain party unity.

The absence of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who was removed from his position last fall, has also had an impact on the Republican Party’s fundraising efforts. The party is facing challenges in maintaining financial stability without McCarthy’s fundraising prowess. It remains to be seen how the internal divisions within the party and the absence of key figures like McCarthy will affect their ability to raise funds and compete in the upcoming election. As the campaign progresses, both parties will need to navigate these challenges and strategize effectively to secure victory in the race for control of the House of Representatives.
