House Republicans have targeted Hunter Biden’s former business partner, Devon Archer, in an attempt to obtain documents related to the investigation into the Biden family. Archer had been requested to provide a large number of documents last August, but had failed to do so. As a result, Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan issued a subpoena for Archer to produce the requested materials by September 6, 2023.

Despite claims by Archer’s lawyer, Matthew Schwartz, that his client has been cooperative, the House Republicans have resorted to a subpoena to obtain the necessary documents. The subpoena demands all records and documents related to numerous entities and individuals involved in the investigation, including Rosemont Capital, Seneca Global Advisors, Joe Biden, and Hunter Biden. Comer and Jordan typically announce high-profile subpoena actions publicly, but this particular one was done quietly.

Archer, who has been a key witness in the House GOP impeachment inquiry led by Comer, did not appear in the second impeachment inquiry hearing last month due to a scheduling conflict. However, he had previously spoken with investigators and denied any knowledge of President Biden using his political role to provide favors for Hunter Biden’s associates. Archer had collaborated with Biden on various business ventures but has since been sentenced to prison for an unrelated fraud scheme.

The subpoena letter from Comer and Jordan also referenced another former Hunter Biden business associate, Jason Galanis, who had provided documents confirming that Archer had received relevant email communications related to the investigation into Joe Biden. The committees stressed the importance of Archer turning over these documents and expressed concerns about the national security implications of immediate family members of the President or Vice President receiving large sums of money from foreign entities without oversight.

Comer has called for President Biden to testify and suggested that criminal referrals may be forthcoming as Republicans continue their investigation into the Bidens. Despite their efforts, it appears that House Republicans may lack the necessary votes for impeachment. Archer has expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation, including providing documents and testifying under oath, and is currently working with House staff to facilitate this process.
