A former Long Island high school volleyball coach, Jason Maser, took his own life by stepping in front of a moving Long Island Rail Road train after being accused of raping a teen player. Maser, 22, was fatally hit near the Syosset station after intentionally walking onto the tracks and leaving a suicide note behind. He was facing charges of third-degree rape and criminal sex act for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at least twice in his Jeep on two separate occasions.

Maser, who was a former part-time coach at Sacred Heart Academy, was arraigned on the charges on Friday morning and later released on $75,000 bail. His lawyer declined to comment on the case, but stated that Maser’s family was devastated by the situation and concerned for the young woman involved. Maser had also previously coached at B&B Volleyball Club, where the victim played, before the allegations came to light and the club severed ties with him.

Sacred Heart Academy, a private Catholic school in Hempstead, also took action after learning about the accusations against Maser. The school cut off his access to its facilities and notified the appropriate authorities. They stated their firm commitment to student safety and well-being, offering all available resources to the family involved. Maser’s suicide came just hours after the disturbing allegations against him were made public, adding a tragic ending to the legal proceedings.

The circumstances surrounding Maser’s death and the charges against him have shocked the community and raised concerns about the safety of young athletes in the sports programs he was involved with. The case highlights the importance of taking swift and appropriate action when allegations of abuse or misconduct arise, in order to protect the well-being of students and prevent further harm. Maser’s actions have left a lasting impact on those involved and serve as a reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise from such heinous crimes.

As the investigation continues and the legal proceedings unfold, those affected by Maser’s actions are left to grapple with the emotional aftermath of the situation. Resources such as the National Suicide Prevention hotline and SuicidePreventionLifeline.org are available for those struggling with suicidal thoughts or in need of support during this difficult time. The community must come together to address the issues raised by this case and work towards ensuring the safety and well-being of all individuals involved in sports programs and other activities where abuse or misconduct may occur.
