Prom season is approaching, and the Duck tape brand has announced the 24th annual Stuck at Prom scholarship contest, where high school students in the U.S. and Canada can create their prom attire out of Duck brand duct tape for a chance to win scholarship prizes. The grand prize winners will receive $15,000 each, with four runner-ups in each category receiving $1,000 and a Duck brand prize pack worth $100. This year, the brand has introduced new judges’ choice awards including the Runway Worthy, Most Inspiring, and Trust E.’s Choice categories, offering additional opportunities for students to showcase their creativity and win cash prizes.

The excitement for this year’s competition is high, with the director of product marketing at Shurtape Technologies, LLC, Kerry Haugh, stating that the Stuck at Prom Scholarship Contest offers larger rewards, new categories, and more opportunities for talented teens to be recognized for their creativity and fashion-forward style. High school and home school students have until June 5th to submit their prom attire entries, with a top 10 list of finalists being selected by June 19th. The public will have a chance to vote on the entries from June 26th to July 10th before the winners are announced on July 17th, giving participants a chance to showcase their unique designs and win scholarship money.

Last year’s winners, Karla Tejeda from Los Angeles, California, and Ian Rojas from Taylorsville, Utah, shared their experiences of creating their prom attire out of Duck tape. Tejeda spent 120 hours making her dress out of 14 rolls of Duck tape, describing the process as very challenging but rewarding. Rojas, inspired by the culture of the Aztecs and Mayans, spent over 57 hours creating his tux and was overwhelmed with joy when announced as the winner of the best tux grand prize. Both winners expressed their gratitude for the scholarship money, which they planned to put towards their college tuition.

Since its inception in 2001, the Stuck at Prom scholarship contest has awarded over half a million dollars in scholarship money to creative and talented students. This year, with increased scholarship prizes and new judging categories, the competition aims to provide more opportunities for students to be rewarded for their inspirational stories, creativity, and fashion-forward style.
